History

Before The Home Hotel was established, it was known as 'Ewart's Store and Post Office', owned by Mr. John Ewart from 1865. The building began as a large slab and bark building, before becoming The Home Hotel in 1883.

The original owners of The Home Hotel really embraced the culture of a welcoming and ‘home’ like environment, where families could come and relax and enjoy good food with good people. The hotel’s first advertisement in the Lilydale newspaper mentions just this. Published in 1888, the advertisement mentions that special provisions have been made for children, and that the choicest wines and spirits are in stock.

Fast forward over 135 years from this advertisement, and The Home Hotel still encompasses this atmosphere and carries on the vision of the original owners. Although the hotel has had a facelift, we have continued to embrace the history of The Launch.
